As If The Planet Really Mattered - Possibly the most important career development workshop you will ever take.

There’s more at stake when making career decisions in today’s world than whether our job will be satisfying or provide a livelihood. We are increasingly being made aware that our career decisions have implications not only for ourselves and our family but also for our community and world.

This unique workshop blends the best in traditional career assessment with a new work ethic focusing on service to the common good, a wiser stewardship of resources and the sustainability of the planet for this and future generations. According to this new ethic all jobs are understood as service jobs - they either contribute to our planetary well being or detract from it.

Most jobs are not necessarily new or different when viewed from the perspective of this ethic but contain a new consciousness and way of doing business. Instead of seeking only profits, shareholder value, and market share both employers and employees are equally motivated by making a contribution to the common good and the health of the planet through their individual jobs, the way they do them, the products and services of their organization and the organization’s role in the community - local, regional and global.

In this course you will be provided the essentials for developing and implementing a self- empowering life and career plan. It offers the benefits of group interaction, feedback and support, as well as the reduced cost not possible with individual counseling. Participants will assess the three foundational points upon which an effective career plan is built: preferred skills, ideal work setting and core values. This information, coupled with the results of the Myers-Briggs Personality Inventory, provides the backdrop for the creation of a list of 20-30 job ideas for each participant and the necessary focus for conducting an effective and ultimately successful job search. You’ll also be given the most current and hard to find resources for this new - socially and environmentally responsible/sustainable - way of making career decisions. The workshop fee includes a three hour follow-up session.

Location: Center for Life Decisions
Time: 6:00pm - 10:00pm
Cost: $195.00 Workshop fee includes a three hour follow-up session.

Healthy Career Choices

"Work is a search for daily meaning and daily bread," said Studs Terkel in his classic, Working. Work must nourish the soul and spirit as does food the body. Yet, for too many, work is little more than a paycheck and far too stressful for balance. This class will explore jobs with meaning and for money, careers that are good for both us and the environment, futures that help promote for generations to come the values and work of the volunteer organization Sustainable Seattle. It’s for those who want to better merge, rather than submerge, their personal and professional values with those of their company or organization. Find out about companies and organizations that are on the forefront of this worker trend. Explore the personal, social and environmental impacts of career choices. Discuss the age-old desire for obtaining more meaning from our work while also trying to bring more money home. Debate the three basic principles defining good work.

Location: PCC, 1810 -12th Ave. NW, Issaquah
Or: 4201 Roosevelt Way NE, Seattle
Time: 9:00am - 4:00pm
